Every online bookshop needs a shopfront, but I wanted somewhere to actually talk about the books — not just sell them. So: welcome to the blog, and welcome to the Silent Book Club next door.
The name is a small joke at my own expense. I have never once managed to read quietly in company without eventually leaning over to say “wait, listen to this bit” — so a book club where the reading itself is meant to be silent felt like exactly the right amount of self-discipline for me to aspire to and immediately fail at.
Here’s how it works: read something, then go and start (or join) a thread about it. Loved it, hated it, couldn’t finish it, want someone to explain the ending to you — all fair game. I’ll be popping in myself, probably to argue about something.
